It is worth noting that if you are an employee and you are told by your employer that your job is at risk and you happen to be pregnant and about to go on maternity leave, it does not automatically mean that the employer is acting unlawfully and necessarily amount to unfair dismissal.
Why? If the employer can show that the redundancy was due to economic reasons/restructuring and had nothing to do with the employee being pregnant, any action against the employer on these grounds would fail.
Also, for the employee to obtain evidence that the reason for her redundancy was related to her pregnancy or maternity leave is an extremely difficult task.
